MITCHELL SUMMER BAND Upcoming 7th-12th grade students and parents, Thank you for another great year! 6th, 7th, 8th, and High School bands have greatly improved throughout the year, and I am looking forward to next year already. Summer band will take place from July 25th through 29th from 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. We will perform at the Scottsbluff County Fair Parade in Mitchell on the morning of July 30th, with more information about the parade to be announced during summer band. Summer band is open to all incoming band students in grades 7-12, but attendance is strongly encouraged for grades 9-12. Much of what we will work on during these days will be basic rehearsal skills, marching techniques, and music that will be important for the high school band during the first quarter. The leadership that the high school band students bring to summer band is also incredibly valuable. Some important things to bring July 25th through 30th: -Your instrument. If you plan on checking out a school instrument, we will do it the morning of the 26th. -Reeds, drumsticks, and anything else you need to make a sound on your instrument. -Comfortable shoes and socks for walking and marching (tennis shoes preferred) -No bare feet, flip-flops, sandals, or open toed shoes -Outside, warm weather clothes. School dress rules apply. -Water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, hats, etc. -Lyres (instrument music stands) and flip folders for holding music if you have your own. (Not required, but may be helpful) Dress for the parade on the 30th will tentatively be black t-shirts with black shorts and comfortable marching shoes and socks. I encourage you all to get your instruments out over the summer to keep everything in working condition. Playing an instrument is a skill that takes practice. If you would like an extra challenge to work on over the summer, please ask! If you spend even 10 minutes every day practicing playing and reading music, it will be a huge benefit to the whole group! Feel free to contact me if you have additional questions. Have a great summer! - Mr. Sailors austin.sailors@mitchelltigers.org https://drive.google.com/file/d/1p3gbbarU8LzfL5dE4_EOb0Y8FdnF7Bsu/view?usp=sharing
